Overcalling

Strong Overcall

Overcalling with a suit, requirements:

• Level 1 in a suit (e.g. - one heart over one diamond) indicates 5 or more cards in your suit, 9-17 TP (at least eight HCP).
• Level 2 in a suit (e.g. - two hearts over one spade) indicates 5 or more cards in your suit, 11-18 TP (at least ten HCP).

Overcalling with one no-trump, requirements:

• 15 or more HCP and 18 or fewer TP
• A stopper in opponent’s suit
• A balanced hand

Aggressive Weak Overcall

Skipping one or more levels, requirements:

Note:All levels require three honors in the overcalling suit, or two of the top three honors.

Level 2 (e.g. - two hearts over 1 diamond) indicates six cards in your suit and 4-9 HCP. (Note: this is essentially a weak two bid but is an overcall.)

Level 3 (e.g. - three diamonds over 1 spade): indicates 7+ cards in your suit and 3+ HCP. (Note: this is essentially a weak three bid but is an overcall.)

Level 4 (e.g. - four diamonds over 1 spade): indicates 7+ cards, 11 or fewer HCP, and 3+ HCP.

Level 5 (e.g. - five diamonds over 1 spade): indicates 8+ cards in your suit and 3-20 HCP. This is a preemptive bid.

Unusual No-Trump Overcall (convention) (forcing for one round) (a possible path to game)

Indicates:

• Three or fewer cards in opponent’s suit
• Five or more cards in each of the two lowest ranking unbid suits
• Twelve or more TP
